Carroll Lee Smith, 55, of Newton died Thursday, April 8, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

No services are scheduled. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of John and Thelma Lousie (Shadwick) Philpee, she was born Nov. 25, 1948, in Tulsa, Okla. On Oct. 22, 1979, she married Jay W. Smith in Council Bluffs. She lived in central Iowa for the last 25 years and was a cook at Perkins restaurant for four years.

Survivors include her husband; five sons and daughters-in-law, Terry L. Coble of Claremore, Okla., Jerry Coble of Tulsa, Okla., Jack Smith Jr. of Council Bluffs, Jason W. and Julie Smith of Ferguson and William J. "B.J." and Jenny Smith of Marshalltown; a daughter, Sherry Kimball of Omaha, Neb.; many grandchildren; one brother and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
