Myron D. Woodrow, 87, of 2309 1st Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Monday evening, Dec. 26, at the Embassy Manor Care Center of complications following a stroke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Wake services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held Thursday following wake services.
Memorial contributions to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church may be left at the church or the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Jennie; a daughter JoAnn (Mrs. Marlan)Shannon of Newton; three grandchildren, Douglas Shannon of Des Moines, Mary (Mrs. Tim) Gordon of Columbus, Ohio and Gregory Shannon of Athens, Tenn; and four great-grandchildren.
Mr. Woodrow, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Newton Elks Lodge BPO 1270, was a retired employee of the Maytag Co.
The son of Fred C. and Ella Guthrie Woodrow, he was born Feb. 21, 1901 in Newton, was graduated from Newton High School, attended Drake University in Des Moines and the University of Iowa at Iowa City.
He was married to Jennie Marie Vardo Aug. 25, 1932 in Colfax. ~ Newton Daily News, December 1988
