Harold E. Weaver Dies At Hospital

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, at the Smith Funeral Home for Mr. Harold E. Weaver, 74, of Newburg, who died Saturday noon (March 27)[1971*] at Grinnell General Hospital.

The Rev. Willard Reynolds, pastor of the Newburg United Church of Christ, will officiate at the services.

Organist will be Mrs. Don Renaud.

Pallbearers will be Harold Barnes, Dean Douglas, Harold McCulloch, James McIlrath, Raymond McIlrath, and Harry Rutherford.

American Legion graveside rites will be conducted by Robert Stewart, commander; Andrew McIlrath, chaplain, and members of American Legion Post No. 149, Ceremonial Unit, of Gilman.

Burial will be made in Prairie View cemetery at Gilman.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Fred W. and Anna McLain Weaver. Mr. Weaver was born Dec. 19, 1896 at Sully. He attended the rural schools of Sully, Lynnville, Laurel and Gilman.

On Sept. 13, 1922, Mr. Weaver was married to Alma A. Anderson at Marshalltown. To this union were born five children - - - Mrs. Robert (Doris) Logsdon of Sioux City, Mrs. Donald (Joyce) Humphrey of Rte. 2, Kellogg, Vernon D. Weaver of Davenport, Derald E. Weaver of Rte. 3, Grinnell, and Mrs. Harold (Darlene) Clark of Grand Island, Neb. Mr. and Mrs. Weaver farmed near Gilman. In 1936 they moved to the Newburg community, and Mr. Weaver operated a corn-shelling business. In 1941, they moved to the town of Newburg where they have since made their home.

Mr. Weaver served with the U. S. Army in France during World War I. He was a charter member of the Paul-Ward American Legion Post No. 149 in Gilman and had received his 50-year pin.

Survivors include his wife, Alma; his five children; ten grandchildren; two sisters - - - Mrs. Joe (Alma) Kirby of Newburg and Mrs. Harold (Hazel) Stanley of Rte. 1, Grinnell; and four brothers - - - John W. Weaver of Marshalltown, Howard C. Weaver of Newburg, Frank D. Weaver of Lyons, Colo., and Fred W. Weaver of Grinnell.

Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elmer S. Weaver.
