Mrs. Mary Veber (nee Close)
Mrs. Mary Veber was born August 26, 1838, near Detroit, Richland County, Michigan.
She was six years old, when she moved with her parents to Bureau county, Illinois. Here it was she learned the acquaintance of her future husband, Luther H. Veber. They were united in marriage April 24, 1859. So Mr. and Mrs. Veber were nearly married 50 years and could have celebrated their golden wedding if Mrs. Veber lived but a few weeks longer.
Seven children were born to them, four daughters and three sons - Mrs. Ida Saum, Mrs. Laura Zimmerman, Mrs. Richard Strovers, Mrs. Doll Jay, William, Charles and Horace. All but Charles are surviving their mother, and together with the bereaved husband are mourning her loss.
Although Mrs. Veber had been ailing for several years and received medical treatment for the last two months, she was only for a week confined to her bed.
Sunday night it became apparent that the end was approaching, and she passed away Monday afternoon.
The departed was a faithful wife, a loving mother and a good neighbor. Mrs. Veber was a member of the Christian church and believed in Christ and the Word of God, and has led a beautiful christian life.
She attained to an age of 70 years, 6 months and 2 days.
Funeral services were held at the house conducted by Rev. J.G. Oltmann, and the remains were laid to rest in the Kellogg cemetery.
Note: Mary Esther Veber died March 1, 1909 and was buried at Our Silent City, Kellogg, Iowa.
