H.E. Veber Killed Instantly at 6:30 This Morning When Working With Hot Wire.
Special to The Daily News.
Kellogg, Iowa July 9 - H.E. Veber, prominent farmer living a mile north of Kellogg was instantly killed this morning at 6:30 o'clock when he attempted to repair a electric washing machine in the basement of his home. It is thought that a short circuit caused his death.
Mr. Veber was working in the barn when his wife called him to repair the machine. He had only started on the machine when he came in contact with the current and was killed.
Mr. Veber, who is 43 years old, has lived in Kellogg all of his life and was one of the leading men in farm bureau work. He owned one of the finest homes in the Kellogg vicinity. He and his wife were both much interested in civic work.
The death of Mr. Veber will bring the tragic loss of a second father to the little Brailey children who have been making their home with Mr. and Mrs. Veber since the death of their own father who was killed while hunting a little more than a year ago. Bernadine Brailey was adopted by the Veber family but Florence, while not legally adopted, was given the same consideration as their own daughter.
Mr. Veber is survived by his widow, who will be remembered by many as Byrd Smith, daughter of the late Dr. Smith of here, his brother, William Veber, of Kellogg, and his four sisters, Mrs. Richard Strovers of Kellogg, Mrs. Arthur Jay, of Oskaloosa, Mrs. Laura Zimmerman of Lynnville and Mrs. Charles Saum, of Kansas.
One brother, Charles Veber, died a number of years ago from typhoid fever.
No funeral arrangements have yet been announced.Mr. Veber is an uncle of C.L. Zimmerman of Newton.
