Coye, Rachel Mae – 1921-2020

Rachel Mae Coye, 99, of Newton and formerly of Toledo, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2020 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Rachel was born on Feb. 1, 1921, in Tama, the daughter of Arthur J. and Eva Mae (Smith) Atchison.
She graduated from Tama High School.
On June 17, 1940, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Coye in Tama. Rachel was a homemaker and took care of children in her own home for many years. She liked flowers and sewing and enjoyed church activities. Rachel loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Coye of Newton, and Paul (Dee) Coye of Post Falls, ID; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Donna Brower of Texas, and Mary Chyma of Toledo; one sister-in-law, Elaine Atchison of Coeur d’Alene, ID; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; one daughter, Ruth Ayoub; her siblings, Arnold Atchison, Vivian Brecht, Lorraine Vore, John Atchison, Bob Atchison, Bud Atchison, Bonnie Skarda, and Patty Hansen; one daughter-in-law, Barb Coye; one son-in-law, Keith Ayoub; and two brothers-in-law, Cliff Brower, and Paul Chyma.
