Louis H. Kling Dies Friday; Rites Monday
Louis Henry Kling, 82, 622 E. 4th St. N., who served for 9 years as a member of the Jasper County Board of Supervisors, died at 12:28 p.m. Friday at Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Johnson Funeral Home.
The Rev. Harold Harryman, associate pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.
A member of the Jasper County Selective Service board for 27 years, he served as chairman of the board for many years.
Mr. Kling, an agent for the Jasper County Mutual Insurance co., also was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Elks Club.
Surviving are his widow, Bertha; two sons, Henry of Kellogg and George of Newton; and four daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Grace) Meredith of Kellogg, Mrs. Florence Wallace of Des Moines, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Powell of Mason City and Dorothy Kling of St. Petersburgh Beach, Fla.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, a brother, Fred W. Kling of Newton, and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Wilsterman and Mrs. Jesse (Laura) Wilsterman, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and John Kling.
The son of Henry L. and Caroline Grosheider Kling, he was born Aug. 3, 1887, at Galesburg and was educated in Jasper County schools.
Born in Galesburg, he later moved with his parents to a farm north of Kellogg.
After his marriage to Bertha Brooks Dec. 25, 1911, at Kellogg, they moved to a farm west of Kellogg where they lived until moving to Newton in 1947.
