The Newton (IA) Record Friday, December 3, 1897
Death of John D. Peters, Jr.

Peters, John D.

We last week gave a brief notice of the death of John D. Peters, which occurred at the home of his parents in Palo Alto Township on Thursday morning, November 25, 1897, aged twenty-six years, eight months and ten days.

John was the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Peters, Sr. He was born March 10, 1871, in Palo Alto near where he died and which had been his home from his birth. Those who have known him from infancy speak of him in the highest terms, and mourn with his loved ones over his death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Ella Davidson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davidson, in Palo Alto Township on Christmas day 1894. To them was born one child, a little daughter.

To the widow and child, and to the parents and friends the tenderest sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended in their affliction. His disease was typhoid pneumonia and his illness only about ten days.

The funeral services were held in the U. P. Church on Friday afternoon, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Ferguson, and attended by a large concourse of sorrowing and sympathizing friends. Among the beautiful floral offerings was an anchor, sent by the janitors of the state house in Des Moines, with whom his father has been employed for a couple of years. The interment was in Wild Cat Cemetery.

The family and relatives of Mr. Peters desire through the RECORD to return thanks to the many kind friends who aided and sympathized with them during the illness and after the death of their loved one.
