Mrs. A. A. Penquite (Mattie A. Cole)
Dies in California, Buried HereThe community was saddened when it was learned that Mrs. A. A. Penquite had passed away at the home of her daughter in California from intestinal flu. She had been ill but a very short time and her death was great shock to her immediate family as well as her many friends.
Until about eight years ago when her husband A. A. Penquite, a former business man, who was in the hardware business here passed away, she was a resident of Colfax where she was very active in the social life of the city and was a faithful worker in the Christian Church.
The body arrived Colfax Sunday morning and funeral services were held at the Christian Church at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. A solo by John Davis and a vocal duet by Mrs. Gonnella and Miss Belle Scott held words of comfort for the bereaved family while the banks of flowers paid their silent tribute to the dead. Rev. V. H. Rogers, pastor of the Church conducted the simple but beautiful service.
The body was laid to rest in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Mattie A. Cole, daughter of J. B. and Matilda Cole, was born Janurary 10th, 1862 at Greencastle, Iowa and died March 4th, 1924 at the home of her daughter Florence in California.
She was united in marriage to Arthur A. Penquite, December 28th, 1882. To this union were born three children, Leila, Harry and Florence, all of whom survive her. She also leaves five grand children, two brothers, J. F. and Charles Knause and four sisters, Mrs. S. M. Hamilton, Mrs. Robert Dawson, Mrs. L. R. Shepherd and Mrs. C. N. Smith and many other relatives and friends share the sorrow of the more immediate family.
She confessed her faith in Christ and united with the Christian church when 18 years of age and was a Charter member of the Howard St. Christian Church of Colfax, Iowa, retaining her membership there and living a consistent Christian life until she was called to her eternal home and to a reunion with the loved ones who had gone before.
