Nelson, Peter

After long months of suffering from asthma and dropsy, Mr. Peter Nelson quietly and peacefully passed away at 7 o’clock Sunday morning, May 22, 1898.

Mr. Nelson’s age was fifty-seven years. He was born in Denmark in 1841, and twenty-six years ago left his home in the old country, coming directly to this city, where he has lived ever since. About twenty years ago he was married to Mrs. Dora Nelson, widow of his deceased brother. To them was born one child, Mrs. Carrie Montgomery of Rockford, who with his three stepsons, John Nelson of Newton, George Nelson of Davenport and Charlie Nelson of Boone, were permitted to be with their father during his last moments, except George, who arrived minutes after the spirit had taken its flight.

Mr. Nelson had been a member of the Lutheran Church for many years, and was always punctual in attendance and faithful in the discharge of every Christian duty. He was a good old man, a devoted husband and a kind affectionate father.

The funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Simon at the Lutheran Church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock.
