Moore, Samuel S.

Mr. Samuel S. Moore was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, October 30, 1816; was married to Miss Eleanor Worrell in 1839. Nine children were the result of this union. Three preceded their father to the better land. Mr. Moore, with his family came to Prairie City in 1885, where he has since lived until his death, which occurred June 26, 1897. Mr. Moore was taken sick in January and has been a great sufferer all the time.

The funeral was held at the home Sunday at 10 a. m. Rev. Riheldaffer, assisted by the other pastors of the city, officiated. The choir, composed of Messrs. J. Freeman and D. Kramer, Mrs. Vandermast and Miss Helen Riheldaffer, sang, He’s gone to that Silent Land, and at the close the Masonic order took charge of the remains, which were taken to Mitchellville for interment.

Prairie City (IA) News, 1897

S. S. Moore died June 26, 1897, at his home in Prairie City.

He was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, October 30, 1816.

He moved to Morgan County, Ohio, at the age of nine, where he grew to manhood.

He married Miss Ellen Worrell in 1839. Four sons and three daughters were born to them, of whom four are now living: Mr. W. H. Moore, of Chicago, Mrs. Benjamin Cope, of Santiago, Iowa, Mrs. J. R. Gill and Mr. B. E. Moore, of Prairie City.

Mr. Moore and family came to this state in 1855, locating in Cedar County. He came to Mitchellville in the fall of 1870 and to Prairie City in the fall of 1885. Burial at Mitchellville.
