Myron Eugene Wormley
June 22, 1928 - January 14, 2020

Myron Eugene Wormley, 91 ½ , of Nevis, MN, passed away at Essentia Health Hospital Tuesday morning, January 14th, 2020.

Myron, was born to James and Effel (Foreman) Wormley on June 22, 1928. He was the youngest of 3 children and grew up in Newton Iowa. He attended a one room school house that was just outside of town until 8th grade where he rode his horse “Teddy” to school each day. He went on to graduate from Newton High School in 1946.

After High school, Myron enrolled at the University of Iowa with a buddy… but found himself sleeping in the field house. He knew that wasn’t going to work long-term and decided to enlist in the Army. He then served in Korea.

After serving in the Army, Myron enrolled in college again in 1948. This time Iowa State University. During college, Myron was a member and president of the Alpha Gama Rho (ΑΓΡ) fraternity. He graduated from Iowa State with his B.S. in Animal Husbandry in 1952. It was well known that he loved Iowa State University and was an extremely proud and supportive alumni.

Once he completed college he began working in the Extension Service in southwest Iowa. After a few years he became the Extension Director for Marshalltown, IA. In 1958, Myron became the Extension Director for Jefferson County and was based in Fairfield, IA. This was where Myron would ultimately settle and raise his family.

Around this time, Dorothy Suzanne Condrey came into Myron’s life. They were married on April 12th, 1958 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At the time of his death they had been married for 61 ½ joy filled years.

Myron and Sue would become proud parents over the next 10 years to Lori (Wormley) Loeschen (Deceased), Mark Wormley, and Bryan Wormley. While raising his children, Myron moved into sales as an outside salesman for SIEG auto parts in Fairfield, IA. He loved this job and enjoyed traveling throughout southeastern Iowa. He spent his time servicing all the gas stations, mechanics, school bus barns, auto body facilities, and even an underground mine where he had to bring his own hard hat for visits. He worked at SIEGS for 30+ years until his retirement.

After retiring from SIEGS, Myron moved into an auto parts delivery position. He loved this position as it allowed him to get out of the house and visit all of his former customers with deliveries.

In 2007, Myron and Sue made the decision to move up to Northern Minnesota to be closer to family. They ended up near their son Bryan and his wife Heidi on their fishing resort, “Wormley’s Happy Days Resort” in Nevis, MN.

Myron quickly became an active member of the Nevis community. He worked as a driver for the high school’s wresting co-op for two years. He also spent years helping his son, Bryan, groom and prepare various sports fields. He even filled in as volunteer coach a few league volleyball teams.

At the resort, Myron helped out wherever and whenever he was needed. He cleaned cabins during change over, cleaned grills (He swore we had to get them while they were hot… as they were easier to clean that way), bailed boats, helped customers in the lodge, and helped with various other resort activities. He also took pride in cleaning and maintaining the resort’s fish cleaning house. This included hauling 5 gallon buckets of fish remains deep into the woods daily for close to 17 years. Myron also helped mowing grass and sucking up leaves in the fall. He had his own mower that he could use whenever and wherever he wanted.

Food and friends were also a big part of Myron’s life. He spent time at various local spots, but was particularly fond of Northwinds Café and McDonalds. He had a daily coffee group at both spots for many years. On some days at Northwinds Café in Nevis, MN he would be seen for breakfast, lunch, and occasionally dinner with coffee time between. He not only enjoyed the food, but also enjoyed the service and company of the wait staff.

Myron loved sports. He spent years watching his children play various sports and quickly became a fixture at Nevis sporting events. He was often seen in the crowd cheering and munching on popcorn. He grew even more interested in these events when his grandchildren participated for Nevis teams. His family could always find him and Sue sitting in the same spot each game and they never missed giving him and Sue a post-game hug.

Myron received many visits from his family, friends, children, grandchildren, and classmates over the years at the Resort. This allowed him to meet his great-grandchildren and maintain connections with people all over the country over the years.

Some things you should know about Myron: He never traveled without spare auto parts and was always prepared to fix anyone’s car. He and Sue would often have multiple games on multiple TVs before this became the norm years later. They even had two TVs stacked on top of each other for years at their home in Fairfield. He always kept up to date with the news and would often inform his family of various updates. He maintained a huge garden while living in Fairfield, IA. He also was very aware of incoming weather and would always let the family know if there was potential for a big storm. Every Sunday he would make himself and his wife Sue their special big breakfast where they would always split a grapefruit. He was a member of various organizations that included: Fairfield booster club, Fairfield “ELK” club, Fairfield “American Legion”, AGR (ΑΓΡ) Fraternity, Iowa State University, Newton High School Alumni, Iowa State University Alumni, Fairfield United Methodist Church, and also supported various local causes wherever he lived.

Myron is survived by his wife of 61 ½ years Dorothy Suzanne (Condrey) Wormley of Nevis, MN. His son and daughter in-law, Mark and Sylvia Wormley (Scottsdale, AZ); Son and daughter in-law, Bryan and Heidi Wormley (Nevis, MN); son in-law Stan Loeschen (Katy, TX); His grandchildren and their partners, Steven and Ana Loeschen (Katy, TX), Michael Loeschen and Christina Cataldo (Katy, TX), Derek Miranda (Scottsdale, AZ), Alex Wormley (Scottsdale, AZ), Samantha Wormley and Kiefer Miller (Minneapolis, MN), Thomas Wormley (Bemidji, MN); Great-Grandchildren, Evan Loeschen, Noah Loeschen, Ryan Loeschen (Katy, TX); Nieces and Nephews, Cinda (Wormley) Kornblum, Sandy (Wormley) Kaput and husband Gary Kaput, and Jim Wormley and wife Roxanne Wormley. He also survived by many additional extended family and friends who were all very special to him.

Myron was preceded in death by his daughters Carla Jo Wormley, and Lori Sue (Wormley) Loeschen; Brother, John Wormley and sister in-law Vernebelle (Vanness) Wormley; Sister, Una (Wormley) Tripp and brother in-law Myron “Mike” Tripp; Nephew in-law, Allan Kornblum; Parents, James Garfield Wormley and Effel (Foreman) Wormley and many other dear friends and family members.

A Celebration of Life is being planned for early summer. Burial will be at Wittemberg Cemetery in Newton, Iowa near the family farm Myron grew up on. ~ The Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, Hawley and Lake Park, MN 14 Jan 2020.
