H. H. McCulloch

H. H. McCulloch died Friday afternoon at his home in Newburg, following an illness of three years. He was 88 years old.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Monday) from the James-Schalinske Funeral Home with the Rev. Helen B. Turner and the Rev. Roland Wendell officiating. Organist was Mrs. Don Renaud.

Pallbearers were Donald Taylor, Howard Gillespie, Robert Slater, David Slater, Marvin Emmert and Kenneth Keenan. Masonic graveside services were conducted by Cyrus Lodge No. 338 of Gilman. Interment was in Hickory Grove cemetery.

The son of William H. and Ellen S. Allen McCulloch, he was born on Dec. 7th, 1871, near Newburg. He attended the rural schools of that community and also attended a business college in Des Moines. On Feb. 27th, 1903, he was united in marriage with Edith Sheppy at Newburg. They farmed in the Newburg area until 1936 when they retired and moved to Newburg. After the death of his wife on Dec. 28th, 1938, Mr. McCulloch made his home with his sons, Harold and James and in 1952 moved to his home in Newburg.

Mr. McCulloch was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Gilman for the past 66 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Walter (Doris) Taylor, of Milan, Ill., Mrs. Ervin (Marian) Slater of Des Moines, and Mrs. Ithel (Ruth) Gillespie of Newburg; his sons, Harold and James, both of Grinnell; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rowe of Grinnell and Mrs. Lillian Lane of Audubon.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother.
