Joshua “Ship” W. Schippers, 40, of Newton, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A celebration of Josh’s life will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 at Fore Seasons.
Memorials in Josh’s name may be left at the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Josh, the son of Gary and Anna (Benac) Schippers, was born May 31, 1979, in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Newton and had worked for many years at Dodd’s Trash and Recycling. Josh was united in marriage with Camielle Stone Aug. 24, 2001, in Newton. He enjoyed fishing, drawing and music. Josh loved spending time with his family, especially his daughter, Olivia, and his many friends.
Josh is survived by his wife, Camielle Schippers of Newton; daughter, Olivia Schippers of Newton; his dad, Gary Schippers of Des Moines; siblings, Sara Schippers (John) of Grinnell, Gina Castillo of Eldora and Justin Schippers of Newton; step-brother, Justin (Charity) Braaksma of Newton; his mother-in-law, Patsy (Ron) Jeffries of Palm Harbor, Fla.; father-in-law, Jeff (Karen) Stone of Ingleside, Ill.; sister-in-law, Shaykiryra Farland of Newton; his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Stone (Janet) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his nieces and nephews, Megan, Rayna, Jerney, Mikhail, Vianna, Sofia, Riley, Christian, Mackenzie, Jacob, Lexi, Hannah, Bella, Lulu and Sevanah; great-niece, Renlie; and special friends, Dave and Liz Dodd of Newton. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Anna and Chuck Braaksma; step-brother, Jeff Braaksma; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
