Marilyn’s memorial service will be 11 a.m., Friday, January 17th at the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, January 17th at the church. They will also greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a lunch at the church.

Burial will be at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left at the church on the morning of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. If you are mailing the memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Gaylor Family on the envelope.

Marilyn L. Gibson Gaylor, the daughter of George Rex and Mary Louise Hall Gibson was born on May 8,1934 in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School in 1952. Marilyn was a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Elementary Education in 1955. She received her MA in Education from the New York State College in Courtland, New York in 1970.

On March 25, 1956, Marilyn was united in marriage with James L. Gaylor at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. They were blessed with four children, Douglas, Ann, Robert and Kenneth. Marilyn was an elementary school teacher from 1955-1987. She also did tax accounting for 10 years. Marilyn was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she was a Past President of United Methodist Women, and she was active in several Bible study groups in the church. She enjoyed needle point, basket weaving and playing cards.

Marilyn died on Friday, January 10, 2020, surrounded by the love of her family at Park Centre in Newton. She was 85. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jack Gibson.

Those left to cherish Marilyn’s memory are her husband, James of Newton; children, Douglas J. (Lisa) Gaylor of Shrub Oak, New York, Ann D. (David) Rucker of Staunton, Illinois, Robert D. Gaylor (Cassandra) of Ithaca, New York and Kenneth A. (Laura) Gaylor of Avendale, Pennsylvania; her eight grandchildren, David J. (Kristie) Rucker of Staunton, Illinois, Bryan R. (Amanda) Rucker of New Douglas, Illinois, Kellie L. Rucker of Williamsville, Illinois, Cassandra P. Gaylor of Shrub Oak, New York, Logan Gaylor of Shrub Oak, New York, Reese A. Gaylor of Avendale, Pennsylvania, James D. “JD” Gaylor of Avendale, Pennsylvania and Taavo Gaylor of Ithaca, New York; two great-granchildren, Jeffrey James “JJ” Rucker of Staunton, Illinois and Joleigh A. Rucker of Staunton, Illinois; her brother, George “Bud” (Sally) Gibson of Indianola; brother-in-law, David (Jill) Gaylor of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.
