Stuart Allspach
April 17, 1956 - January 3, 2020

Stuart Lee Allspach, 63, passed away January 3, 2020, at his home in rural Baxter. Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter, Iowa. His memorial service will follow and begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Johnson officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date in Bethany Cemetery in Baxter, Iowa.

He was born April 17, 1956, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to LeRoy and Marguerite (Stock) Allspach. Stuart attended Baxter High School and graduated with the class of 1974. He lived most of his entire life on the family farm southeast of Baxter where he farmed with his Dad until muscular dystrophy prevented him from doing routine farm activities. Although confined to a wheelchair for many years, he was able to remain on the farm where he enjoyed being outside, watching the birds, and visiting the pond.

Stuart was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter. He enjoyed stamp collecting; watching sports, car racing, and westerns on TV; playing cards; and writing letters to the editor.

Along with his family, he was blessed to have many good neighbors. Lance Edgar, Randy Lust, Tom O'Brien, and Dusty O'Brien gave him so much love and support that allowed him to stay in his home for as long as he did.

Although his disease prevented him from participating actively in any athletic activities beyond Little League, he was an avid sports fan. Even though not being able to participate in physical activities, he was still a fierce competitor. If you ever played chess or any type of card game against him you would soon learn this, he hated to lose. He dearly loved watching Iowa and Iowa State games on TV and that competitive spirit was evident when he watched.

Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Marguerite, and brother Steve. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his brother Stan (Sharon) Allspach, nieces Angie (Chad) Pietig, Liz (Nino) Geraci, and Amy (Shawn) Silva, nephew Aaron (Jessica) Allspach, and six great-nieces and two great-nephews.

Memorials may be directed to Muscular Dystrophy Association or Baxter Community School.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Stuart and his family. ~ The Fredregill Funeral Home, Baxter, Iowa 03 Jan 2020.
