Leach, John ThomasJohn Thomas Leach was born February 21, 1842, and died in Des Moines, Iowa April 13, 1912. He was married to Amanda V. Kitterman August 3, 1866, at Independence, Iowa, and of the eight children born of this union seven survive with their mother to mourn his departure. Mr. Leach was for many years a member of the Baptist society, and was a consistent Christian throughout his life. He served his country faithfully as a private soldier during the civil war, and his wife and children have reason to be proud of his record of patriotic devotion to duty. The funeral was from the Baptist church last Monday at 2:00 p.m., his comrades of the G.A.R. Post and the members of the W.R.C. meeting the casket at the Rock Island station here and escorting it to the church where the impressive service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Williams. As a mark of honor to the deceased veteran, and respect to his daughter, a teacher in the city schools, no sessions of the schools were held during the afternoon, and the teachers and scholars attended the obsequies in a body. The burial at Oak Hill was in conformity with the ritual of the G.A.R.
