Kirkpatric, Christiana (McNab)

Mrs. Christiana McNab Kirkpatric was born in Gloversville, Fulton Co., New York. She died April 2, 1897, being within twenty days of 92 years of age at the time of her death.

She was married May 20th, 1830, to Robert Kirkpatric, removing with her husband and family to Illinois in 1837 and to Iowa in 1867. In 1869 she came with her family to Monroe.

Her husband in April 1872 departed this life, since which time she with her daughter, Lizzie, have continued to live in this place. She was raised by Presbyterian parents and early in life she cast her lot with God’s people. She united with the United Presbyterian Church at this place and continued an exemplary member until her death.

She was the mother of ten children, of whom three died in infancy. Five children survive her Lizzie and Andrew Kirkpatric, Mrs. Annie Leslie, Mrs. Catherine Campbell and Mrs. Jeannette Leslie. Grandma Kirkpatric was the oldest person who ever died in Monroe. She was a patient, Christian woman, enduring hardships as a good soldier of Christ, and leaving an example worthy of imitation to her family and friends who survive her.
