Peggy Ann (Conn) Gammon
July 24, 1944 ~ December 4, 2019 (age 75)

A celebration of life and interment at Palo Alto Cemetery is planned for the spring in Newton, an announcement will be made at a later date. Memorials may be designated to the Jasper County Iowa Animal Rescue League and Humane Society.

The daughter of Roy D. “Mike” and Myrtle M. “Myrt” Conn, Peggy was born July 24, 1944, in Newton. She was a 1962 graduate of Newton Senior High School.

Peggy was united in marriage to Charles M. “Mike” Gammon Dec. 14, 1968, and their marriage was blessed with four boys. Mike’s career in heavy construction took the family to many locations across the Midwestern United States. Peggy was the rock on the home front, organizing the moves with a happy heart focused on providing a loving and comfortable home for her family. An outgoing and social person, at every place she lived she surrounded herself with good friends. In particular, she was always a favorite among the boy’s friends and was referred to by many of them as their “second mom.” After Mike’s passing on July 25, 1992, Peggy moved back to Newton where she lived the balance of her life. Peggy married Robert Hummel in 1998, he proceeded her in death in 2004.

Peggy is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law, Pat Gammon and Steve Hollenbeck; and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Gammon and Katherine Holsinger. Left to honor her memory are her sons, Scott (Denise Schoonover) of Fort Myers, Fla.; Matt (Amy) of Atlanta, Ga.; Mark (Mendi) of Cape Girardeau, Mo., and Robb of Newton; grandchildren, Josh, Lauren, Quinn and Sierra; and her beloved cat, Charlie. Also surviving are her sisters, Patty Hollenbeck and Pam (David) Schnathorst of Newton; brothers-in-law, Craig (Lorraine) Gammon of Phoenix, Ariz., and Dr. James Holsinger of Quincy, Ill.; sister-in-law Julie (Dan) Huiskamp of Cresco; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care she received from Skiff Medical Center, the skilled nursing staff at Accura Healthcare of Newton East and Hospice of the Midwest. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 04 Dec 2019.
