Eugene "Gene" H. Mikkelson
June 27, 1954 ~ November 30, 2019 (age 65)

Gene, the son of Howard and Irene (Frizell) Mikkelson, was born June 27, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a lifelong resident of Newton and a graduate of Newton High School in 1972. He had also received his Certificate of Architectural Drafting. Gene was united in marriage with Kathy Angell on December 23, 1979, in Newton. Gene worked at The Maytag Company for 29 years, retiring in 2007. He was a member of the UAW Local 997 and served as a union representative. He had also been a member of the Moose Lodge and the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed hunting, bowling, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Those left to honor Gene’s memory include his wife, Kathy of Newton; sons, Chris (Tina) Mikkelson of Lindenhorst, IL, and Jason (Makayla) Mikkelson of Newton; grandchildren: Adalyn, Amelia, and Isaac Mikkelson of Lindenhurst, IL, and Angell Mikkelson of Newton and Logan Mikkelson, due in January 2020; his mother, Irene Mikkelson of Newton; his siblings: Jacelon (Ron) Bunger of Chattanooga, TN, Kathy (Mark) DeKock of Alcester, SD, Nancy Mikkelson of Newton, and Doug (Cindy) Mikkelson of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
