Rites For Fred Bolte Held in Newton Sunday
Old-Time Printer and Editor Passes Away After Lingering Illness
Funeral services were held in Newton Sunday for Fred G. Bolte, Newton resident, who died Friday after a lingering illness of more than a year.
The services were conducted by Dr. L. B. Logan, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, at 2:30, assisted by Dr. W. R. Moore, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the Union Cemetery, in Newton, with graveside services in charge of the I.O.O.F. lodge. Dr. Logan, in his address, took his text from the 14th Chapter of St. John. Mrs. L. B. Logan and Richard Toedt sang three selections, “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere,” “Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide with Me.” The pallbearers were member of the post office force at Newton, of which the deceased had been a faithful employee for the past 18 years: H. C. Skow, J. E. Patton, R. O. Besack, H. E. Sprinkle, [three other names broken off from old newspaper clipping]
Married in Monroe
Mr. Bolte was born November 3, 1878, near Bellevue, Iowa, and was married to Elizabeth Ann Honnold, June 12, 1901, in Monroe. The year following their marriage they lived in St. Charles, Iowa, where Mr. Bolte was editor of the St. Charles Hawkeye.
From there they moved to Newton and for 30 years made the county seat their home, with the exception of a few years spent in Prairie City, where he was foreman of the Prairie City News, and at Dexter, where he edited the Sentinel.

Honnold, of Truro; Dr. and Mrs. Frank L. Phillips, of Detroit, Mich; Mrs. Clare Byrd, of Winterset; Lee Porter of VanMeter; Mr. and Mrs. George Bolte of Clayton, Mo.; Mrs. Jesse Honnold of Monroe; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Honnold, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Honnold of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. John Huigen, Mr. and Mrs. Pedro Mullins, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Mullins, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Efnor, Mr. and Mrs. Ira Honnold, Mrs. Alice Shaw and Abe Van I__en, all of Monroe, and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Jennings and Mrs. Rex Honnold of Prairie City.
