Died – At her home east of Hotel Colfax, Monday afternoon, at one o’clock, of paralysis, Mrs. Henry Sumpter, aged 59 years. The funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. O. H. King, Tuesday at two o’clock, and the remains were interred at the Slaughter cemetery. Death was a sweet release to this long suffering woman, she having been almost entirely helpless and speechless for about ten years. Her only daughter, Miss Dollie Sumpter, aged 19 years, cared for her with untiring love and devotion through all these many years. Mrs. Sumpter was the mother of six children, five by a former marriage – James Doolittle, of this city, and four other sons, two living in Des Moines, one in Colorado, and one in Seattle, Washington. Besides her children she leaves her husband, and a brother, Mr. S. Petty, of Vandalia.
