Funk, J. ElsterJ. Elster Funk, 90, of 950 E. 8th St. S. died of cancer Saturday. Oct. 20, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Aubuchon, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where family will be available from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials will be accepted in his name at the funeral home.
The son of Gaylord and Louisa Stephens Funk, he was born Dec. 29, 1910, in Lovilla. He attended country school. He lived in Dallas from 1931 to 1936 and then moved to Newton. On Nov. 20, 1930, he married Ruth A. Brees in Chariton. He worked at the Newton Foundry for 40 years as a moulder, retiring in 1975.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Marlene K. Funk of Richmond, Calif., and Dolores Ferraz of Newton, one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, a brother, Ernest Funk of Newton and several nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, five brothers and a sister.
