Resident of Metz Dies This Morning Mrs. Andrew Engle Dies Following Paralytic Stroke; Serives Sunday

Metz, Dec. 27 --Special to The Daily News -- Mrs. Andrew Engle, one of the most prominent figures in the local community for the past 35 years, died at her home, short distance north of here, this morning at 6 o'clock. She was 78 years of age and had been ill for only a short time, having suffered a paralytic stroke last Monday morning while she was working in her house.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Sugar Grove church and burial will be in the Sugar Grove cemetery.

Born in England.

Mary Frances Berry was born in Liverpool, Eng. Feb. 24, 1852. While still a small child she came in company with her mother, two sisters and one brother, to the United States, and the family settled in Cleveland, Oh., where Mary Frances grew to womanhood.

Later they moved to Chicago, Ill., and it was here that she became acquainted with Andrew Engle, whom she married in the year 1888 at Baxter, Ia. For six years they made their residence in Des Moines and at the end of that time and just 26 years ago, they moved to Metz and have since resided on the farm where her death occurred and which is located about a quarter of a mile north of the town.

Husband Survives.

Her mother, sisters and brother preceded her in death a number of years ago and she leaves surviving her, her husband, one nephew, William Coshell of Newark, N. J., and three step sons, Fred Engle of Metz, James Engle of Newton and Percy Engle of Des Moines, besides 12 grand children and six great-grand children and a number of cousines and other relatives and friends.

She was a member of the Catholic church, having joined that faith many years ago. She was a member of no lodges or fraternal organizations but was active in the work of the grancge and church and was one of the most highly esteemed residents of the community. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, December 27, 1930.

Obituary: Mrs. Andrew Engle.

Metz, Dec. 30 -- Special to The Daily News--Funeral services for Mrs. Andrew Engle who had been a resident of this community for the past 36 years were held at the church here Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Paul E. Becker in charge. Burial was in the Sugar Grove cemetery.

Pallbearers were John I. Miller, P. H. Healy, John Healy, Harry Snook, Tim Kating and Homer Clement. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of H. E. Moffitt, E. C. Emmack, Mrs. Tim Kating and Mrs. Shepherd with Mrs. A. G. Hauge at the piano. They sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "In the Garden" and "Only a Dream".

Mrs. Engle suffered a stroke of paralysis on Monday, Dec. 22, from which she never rallied and grew steadily weaker until Saturday morning, Dec 27 when she died at 2 o'clock. She was 78 years old.

The funeral was large with those from a distance being Mr. and Mrs. ? and children, Paul and ?, Mrs. Hal Callison, Mr and Mrs. ?ter Cox, Mr and Mrs. ? Glen Paschal and Henry ? of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. ? Clark of Baxter and ? of Ankeny. ~ The Newton Daily News, Newton, IA, December 30, 1930.
