Mrs. Nora Engle Dies At 75 Years Dies at Home of Daughter Mrs. Connie O'Leary Tuesday night

Mrs. Nora Engle, 75, long time resident of Jasper county died Tuesday at 9:20 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Connie O'Leary, 321 South Second Avenue West.

Mrs. Engle suffered a stroke seven weeks ago at the home of her son, Archie M. Engle of Colfax and was brought to Mrs. O'Leary's home in Newton the next week. She had been in bed since Thursday.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Morgan funeral home Thursday at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. Charles H. Schmitz of Omaha. Interment will be in the Sugar Grove Cemetery.

Grange Member.

Mrs. Engle was the oldest member of the Sugar Grove Grange, joining at the age of 16 years. She was made an honorary member of the organization in recent years. She had been a member of the Margaret Rebekah lodge for over 30 years.

She was born in Jasper county on a farm west of the present Sugar Grove Grange hall near Metz on July 7, 1861, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hollis Clement.

When she was 18 years of age, the family moved to Kansas in 1879, making their trip by covered wagon.

Marriage.

In 1880, she was united in marriage to Melvin Engle at Scandia, Kan., and returned as his bride to Jasper county to live. They located on a farm near Metz, where Mrs. Engle became widely known for her kindness and helpfulness in times of sickness in the homes of the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband five years ago last August and had spent most of the time since in the homes of her children.

Mrs. Engle united with the Methodist Episcopal church in girlhood. She was one of newer members of the Daily News' Three-Quarter Century club.

Surviving relatives include her daughter, Mrs. O'Leary of Newton; two sons, Archie M. Engle of Colfax and Lloyd H. Engle of Fairmount, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. R. G. Allen of Newton, and a brother, S. B. Clement of Shell Lake, Wis.; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
