Elmer Clayton Emmack

Elmer Clayton Emmack, son of Charles and Effie Love Emmack was born in Mercer County, Ill., November 10, 1879 and departed this life September 16, 1950 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 6 days.

He came to Jasper County with his parents at the age of 5 years and settled in Sherman township where he grew to manhood. He received his education in the rural schools.

At the age of 14 years he joined the United Brethren church and latter in life became a member of the Metz Baptist church. He was a sincere Christian and held the office of secretary and treasurer of the Sugar Grove Cemetery for over 25 years.

On September 28, 1898, he was united in marriage to Georgia Miller and settled on a farm at Metz where he resided until the time of his death. To this union were born six children.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and one son, Myron, who died at the age of 2 years.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, three sons, Dale of Prairie City, Donovan and Delmar and two daughters, Mrs. Glen (Leora) Blackledge and Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Sille all in the vicinity of Newton. One brother Guy of Monroe, thirteen grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Emmack celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary Sept. 28, 1948. Mr. Emmack was a fond and loving husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his family and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the First Lutheran church in Newton with burial at Sugar Grove Cemetery. ~ The Newton Daily News September 1950
