Mingo News – Ray Carlson, 65, died January 18 in the Skiff hospital at Newton of a coronary thrombosis.
William Ray Carlson son of Daniel and Ada Carlson was born at Oakland, Nebr., April 22, 1890. He came to Kansas with his parents in 1893, locating on a farm three miles east and one mile south of Olivet in the Plymouth neighborhood. He moved to Olivet with his parents in 1918 and started to work as a car salesman in Osage City. He moved to Paola, Kan., in the spring of 1923 to be a salesman for the Chevrolet dealer there.
On June 2, 1923, he was married to Evalyn Sams of Detroit, Mich. In the fall of 1932 they moved to Olivet where they resided until 1939 when they moved near Lyndon, Kan., to operate a service station which they run until 1943.
After having the station he took up farming locating on a farm near Lyndon. He sold real estate for several years. Three years ago he took over the management of the Central Recreation parlor at Lyndon, which he operated until the spring of 1955 when his health failed. He sold his property and they moved to the home of Mrs. Carlson’s mother near Mingo, Ia., so she could help care for her as well as Mr. Carlson.
He was a Mason belonging to Euclid Lodge No 101, A.F. & A.M. at Lyndon. He was also a member of the Methodist church.
Mr. Carlson is survived by his wife Evalyn, one sister, Mrs. Blanche Rankin of Gardner, Kan., two brothers, Clifford of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Dannie of Filer, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.
Funeral services were conducted from the Mingo Methodist church Sunday, January 22nd at 2 p.m. with the Rev. K. E. Nesbitt officiating.
Burial was in the Sams cemetery near Mingo.
The songs “In the Garden” and “Beyond the Sunset” were sung by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Howard Southern, Mrs. Lou Neal, Eldon Geisler, and Otha Hulse. Mrs. Dale Harter was the organist.
Pall bearers were Dennis Cummings, Ralph Clark, Walter Ellis, Russell Southern, Geo. Hill and Howard Southern.
Relatives attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. Walter Rankin and son Marvin of Gardner, Kansas, Mrs. and Mrs. Elmo Herring of Wichita, Kansas.
