Besse L. Koehn Services Held February 13
Besse L. (Calhoon) Koehn was born June 7, 1903, at Mingo, the daughter of Bion and Emma McKeever Beard. She received her education in the Mingo schools. On December 25, 1926 she was married to Ezra Smith Calhoon at Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Nov. 6, 1962. On Aug. 25, 1983 she married Alfred Koehn in Marengo, Iowa.
Besse was a resident of Marengo since June 1980, and prior to that for one year at Charles City and from 1947 to 1979 she resided in Ames. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran
Survivors include her husband, two sons, Max L. Calhoon of Naperville, Ill., and Edward Clair Calhoon of Walnut Creek, Calif., and one stepson, Maynard Koehn of Lakewood, OColo., and one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Torney of Marengo, and one step-daughter, Mrs. Robert (Glorine) Brown of Concord, Calif.; 1 brother, Andrew Beard of Newton; 7 grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband and 8 sisters and brothers.
Besse passed away at University Hospitals in Iowa City Monday evening, Feb. 10 at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 3 days.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, with the Rev. James Dahlke officiating. Interment was in the Sams Cemtery near Mingo, with the Rev. E. L. Stuempfig officiating at the graveside services. The body was cremated.
