Death of Emma Elsie McKeever Beard
Emma Elsie McKeever was born Feb. 22, 1863 on a farm near Colfax, daughter of William and Julianne (Miller) McKeever, soon after her birth father was killed in action in the battle of Vicksburg. She passed from this life on July 8, 1955, at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 16 days.
On May 19, 1879 she was united in marriage to Bion W. Beard. To this union were born ten children. Her husband and three of the children, Edgar, Carrie and Walter preceded her in death. Those who mourn her loss are Mrs. Eleanor Boyd of Fontana, Calif., Mrs. Bessie Calhoon of Ames, Iowa, Charley Beard of Maxwell, Willis of Mingo, Jesse of Colfax, Roy of Runnells and Andrew of Ira. Also one brother, Mid Harmon of Adel. There are 35 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Beard spent most of her life in the Mingo and Colfax communities. She was a member of the Christian church at Colfax, where she was active as long as her health permitted. She spent her life ministering to her family and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Brouhard Funeral home in Nevada on July 11th at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Sophia Fluke and Rev. G. S. Nichols having charge of the service. Short graveside services were given by Rev. Sophie Fluke. Interment was at the Sams cemetery near Mingo.
Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. J. R. Dillin. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Grace Baker and Mrs. Carolyn Brouhard.
Casket bearers were C. G. Akins, Otha Hulse, Carl Staker, Russell Southern, Howard Southern and Francis Southern all of Mingo.
