B. W. Beard, Colfax, Dies
COLFAX, IA (Special to The Daily News) – B. W. Beard, 84, a retired farmer and long-time resident of Jasper county, died at his home here this morning at 6:15 o’clock following a months’ illness. He suffered from pneumonia and gall stones.
Mr. Beard, of English descent, came to Jasper county with his parents from Ohio when he was a child and engaged in farming in the county for 65 years. The family lived on a farm six miles northwest of Colfax before he retired about 20 years ago and moved to Colfax.
He is survived by Mrs. Beard, the former Emma McKeever, and eight children. Mr. and Mrs. Beard were married at Nevada, Ia., May 19, 1879. Mr. Beard was a member of the Colfax Christian church and the Three-Quarter Century club of The Newton Daily News.
Sons and daughters surviving are Mrs. Earl Boyd of Long Beach, Cal.; Charles Beard, Maxwell; Willis Beard, Mingo; Mrs. Carrie Newberry, Colfax; Jesse Beard, Colfax; Roy Beard, Colfax; Andrew Beard, Ira, and Mrs. E. S. Calhoun, Colfax.
Two sons, Walter and Edgar, preceded their father in death.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed late this morning.
