Rites Monday for Mrs. Emmack, 88, of Newton Area
Emmack, Effie (Love)

Funeral services for Mrs. Effie Emmack, 88, who was a resident of the Sugar Grove neighborhood for more than 57 years, will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the Johnson-Murcoch funeral Home in Newton.

Rev. E. A. Briggs, pastor of the First Methodist church in Newton, will officiate at the rites. Burial will be at the Sugar Grove cemetery.

The daughter of Robert and Louisa Love, Mrs. Emmack was born Oct. 23, 1860 in Illinois. She received her education in the country schools of Illinois and lived in Illinois until 1882 when she moved to Muscatine county, Ia. After three years there, she moved to Jasper county.

She was married to Charles H. Emmack Dec. 19, 1878, in Illinois, and she and her husband lived at their old homestead north of Sugar Grove for 57 years. She was a member of the Metz Baptist church.

Besides her son, Elmer, she is survived by another son, Guy Emmack of Route 1, Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Sturdevant of Sioux Falls, S. D.; nine grandchildren, Dale Emmack of Prairie City, Donovan Emmack of Newton, Mrs. Glen Blackledge of Newton, Mrs. Richard Sille of Newton, Delmar Emmack of Newton, Lyle Emmack of Newton, Mrs. Zelma Williams of Newton, Mrs. John Ball of Newton, Mrs. Earl Runyan of Monroe, and 21 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a stepdaughter, Jennie Phillips, whom the Emmacks took into their home at the age of two and who died when she was 18. ~ Newton Daily News, July 23, 1949.
