Kellogg – Keith Altenhofen, 61, of Rt. 1, Kellogg, owner of the Newton Furniture Co. since 1961, died Thursday evening, Nov. 1, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton.
The Rev. E. William Kaska, pastor of the church, will conduct services.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Reese Chapel.
Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Saturday, Nov. 3.
Memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his wife, Ann Ruth; four sons, Tim of Newton, Gary of Spencer, Mike of Ames and Tom of rural Kellogg; three daughters, Sharon Stadsbold of Spencer, Twila Rush of Minneapolis, Minn., and Cindy Peterson of Peoria, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, Maurice Altenhofen of Russell and La Vonne Altenhofen of Harper; and his mother Mrs. Emma Altenhofen of Keota.
He was preceded in death by his father, infant twin granddaughters, a brother, Donavan, and a sister, Theola Yoder.
Mr. Altenhofen was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1655, of Newton.
Mr. Altenhofen, who served in the Army Air Corps in World War II as a first lieutenant, bombardier, was awarded a certificate of valor for courageous service in aerial combat and the air medal with three oak leaf clusters.
Mr. Altenhofen, who has owned Matt Furniture in Spencer since 1982, had been in the furniture business in Sigourney from 1946 until 1961.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Altenhofen, he was born Dec. 19, 1922 in Harper.
