Phyllis Ann George
July 1, 1932 – September 23, 2019

Phyllis Ann George, 87, of Newton, IA formerly of Pilot Mound, IA passed away at the Newton Health Care Center on Monday, September 23rd, 2019.

Phyllis was born in Boone County on July 1st, 1932 the daughter of Frank and Mary (Parrish) Sebring. Phyllis went to rural schools and graduated from Boone High School in 1950.

After graduating High School Phyllis married Donald George, the couple lived in various homes throughout Boone County. She attended college for teaching and social work and was employed at the Headstart School in Frasier, as well as the Mid Iowa Community Action community center. Later she worked for Sandler Built Homes. She was long time member of the Fundamental Bible Chapel in Pilot Mound until its closure, then the Baptist Church of Ogden.

Phyllis was a country girl. She enjoyed fishing, gardens, and anything to do with the outdoors. She also loved going to auction sales. She was well known by all the area auctioneers. Some called her “50 cent Philly”. She almost never missed a good sale day or a fish fry.

The grandkids all enjoyed her banana bread or cookies at Christmas time and their time together fishing.

Phyllis and Don had six children, fifteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mary, father Frank, husband Don, grand-daughter Stacy, and four brothers: Richard, Jerry, Charles and David and her son Ed.

She is survived by her five children: Jean Nagle (Norm Osten) of Newton; Donna Sego of Ogden; Sherry Phipps (Mark Floden) of Montezuma; Frank George (Heidi Van Schoy) of Newton; Thomas George (Kerri Drake) of Newton and siblings: Dale Sebring of Colorado; Carol (Jim) Siegler of IL; Janice Carlson of Ankeny; Mary Ellen (Darrel) of Story City; Nancy (Ray) Carpenter of Boone; sister in law Jackie Sebring of Waterloo and brother in law Jackie George of Missouri as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday October 1, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Alliance Church 111 6th Street, Boone, Iowa with Pastor King Smith officiating. Interment will be at Pilot Mound Cemetery following the service.

Memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion.
