Norinne (Shepherd) Hardenbrook
FEBRUARY 21, 1932 ~ SEPTEMBER 24, 2019 (AGE 87)

Norinne Hardenbrook, 87, of Newton died on Tuesday, September 24, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 28, at First United Methodist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends after the service during a luncheon at the church. Memorials to Lynnville Historical Society, Jasper County Historical Society or FUMC may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Norinne, the daughter of Charles and Ada (Whetstine) Shepherd, was born on February 21, 1932 in Lynnville. After the passing of her father, the family made their home in Newton. She graduated as the Salutatorian from the Newton High School class of 1950. On February 7, 1952, Norinne was united in marriage with Elvin “Stub” Hardenbrook at the First United Methodist Church chapel in Newton. They made their lifelong home in Newton. Through the years Norinne had worked at Maytag and later on at Newton Manufacturing, but most of her life was as a dedicated stay at home mom to raising her two daughters, Jane and Carol. Norinne was member of the First United Methodist Church, Chat-A-Bit Club, Newton Writing Group, Bridge Club and Women’s Bowling Association. She was a devoted grandmother and family was always first. She enjoyed playing cards, collecting rocks, gardening, and fishing at Rock Creek Lake. Norinne was also an avid college basketball fan.

Those left to honor Norinne’s memory are her daughters, Jane Hiemstra of Newton and Carol (Carlo C.) Supino of Newton; grandchildren, Megan Hiemstra of Newton and Sam Supino of Newton; Sisters-in-law, Marie Hardenbrook of Newton, Darlene Head of Des Moines and Pat Shepherd of Bakersfield, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, Charles Shepherd and Ada Shepherd Chambers; her husband; siblings, Charles Shepherd, Mary Lou Wickliff and Doris Fosenburg. Also passing on the same day as Norinne was her brother, Robert Shepherd, of Bakersfield, California. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 24 Sept 2019.
