DOUD, LOUISA (HAYDEN)

DIED DOUD-At Greencastle, Iowa, April 7th, 1884, Mrs. Louisa Doud, aged 80 years, 1 month and 18 days.

Louisa Doud, (formerly Hayden) was born in Cumington, Mass., on Feb. 19th, 1804, and there passed her school days, a school mate of W. C. Bryant, of whom she often spoke in after years.

In 1819 her parents removed to Tioga county, Pennsylvania, where Dec. 25, 1823, she was married to P. H. Doud. They afterwards moved to Ohio, and from there in 1854 to Iowa. Ten children were born to them, eight of whom grew up and married and five of whom are left to mourn the loss of one of the kindest friends and most loving and indulgent mothers.

To the aged husband whom she leaves drooping with the weight of nearly eighty-four years, (and who so deeply feels he has now lost the staff upon which he could so trustingly lean,) she had ever been a most self-sacrificing, faithful and loving wife for over sixty years.

She passed down sweetly to her rest, having no wish but to see her babies and bid them a last good bye, (which was denied her with all but two), with a wish that they would not mourn her too deeply, and with her last words said: "She would wait for them on the other side where she would not be too deaf to hear them, or too feeble to greet them."
