Monroe — Steven Gene Dorothy, 53, of Monroe died of pneumonia Wednesday, Sept 5, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Lemosy officiating. Burial will be at Newton Union Cemetery. Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe is handling arrangements. Friends may call today at the funeral home where family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Jasper County Association for Retarded Citizens.

The son of Hubert and Dorothy Gray Dorothy, he was born Feb. 28, 1948, in Newton. He attended rural schools and participated in special education classes in Newton. He was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church. He lived in Albia, Newton and in Monroe since 1991.

Survivors include three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Bud Langmaid of Newton, Rita Layton of Monroe and Sheryl and Bernard O'Malley of Urbandale, and his mother.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother-in-law.

Services for Steven Gene Dorothy, 53, of Monroe, were held Saturday, September 8, 2001, at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Union Cemetery in Newton. Steven Dorothy passed away September 5, 2001, at Skiff medical Center in Newton of Pneumonia. Steven lived in Monroe for the past ten years. He has also lived in Albia and Newton. Survivors are his mother, Dorothy Dorothy of Monroe, three sisters, Marilyn Langmaid of Newton, Rita Layton of Monroe, and Sheryl O'Malley. Memborial contributions have been suggested to the Jasper County Association for Retarded Citizens.
