Jerry C. Deal, 83, of 923 E. 10th St. S. died from complications of congestive heart failure Tuesday, Dec. 11, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg with the Rev. Walt Claussen, pastor of the Kellogg Christian Church in Kellogg officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements. The family will greet friend immediately following the graveside service with a lunch at the Kellogg Christian Church. Memorials will be accepted to Kellogg Christian Church or Kellogg Historical Society and may be left at the service or at the funeral home.

The son of Jerry O. and Irene Stahler Deal, he was born Sept. 22, 1918, in West Liberty. On Oct. 17, 1942, he married Mary Pauline Paulson in Bethany, Mo. He owned and operated Deal Tiling and Dozing for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He had lived in West Liberty, Minn., Newburg, south of Grinnell and east of Kellogg.

Mr. Deal was a member of Oak Grove Friends Church and attended the Kellogg Christian Church. He also was a member of the Kellogg American Legion 1945, Jasper County Farm Bureau, Kellogg Co-op and the Kellogg Historical Society.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Keenan of Kellogg and Charlotte and Steve Witte of Kellogg, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a sister, Charlotte Sixta of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, three sisters (one in infancy) and a brother.
