For the Journal.
Gone to Rest – Last Friday morning at half past 2 o’clock, Hayden Bridges, son of Mr. and Mrs. Green Bridges, peacefully sank to rest, aged 26 yrs., 4 mo., and 3 days. The deceased was born Sept. 5, 1862, in this county, on the old homestead, 6 miles northwest of Newton, where his whole life, until about two months ago had been spent.
On the 23d day of January, 1888, he was united in marriage to Miss Katie Pettid, - the result of their union being one child. About two months before his death, he moved onto Lambert Hall’s farm six miles north of Newton, which he had rented for 1889. He became dissatisfied with his new home, and on Jan. 5th re-rented it to a German. He said he would not need any farm for 1889.
On Sunday, Jan. 6, he returned to his old home feeling happy because he had got rid of the farm; and on the same evening he was taken with terrible cramps, which soon developed into inflammation of the bowels. He suffered severely for 12 days and nights, but bore it all patiently, and was ready to go at the Master’s call. He leaves a young wife and babe, parents, relatives and a large circle of friends, but no enemies. He was an obedient son and a true and faithful husband. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. I. O. Kemble, of the Newton M. E. Church.
Card of Thanks – We desire to return our sincere and heartfelt thanks to the neighbors and community for the kind and faithful assistance thro’ the sickness of our husband and son. Mrs. Katie Bridges, Mr. and Mrs. Green Bridges.
