Peter Van Gent Dies Tuesday; Services Friday
Sully – Peter Van Gent, 80, a resident of Sully since 1972 and longtime Sully, Monroe and Otley area farmer, died Tuesday afternoon at the Pella Community Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Sully.
The Rev. Daniel Hakken and the Rev. Ralph Menning, pastors of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Sully Cemetery
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home in Newton from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and at the church after 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions to the First Reformed Church in Sully or the Community Reformed Church in Newton will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home or at the churches.
Survivors are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Edward of Zeeland, Mich., and Kenneth of Otley; two daughters, Mrs. Guysbert (Esther) Van Wyk of Lynnville and Mrs. Carl (Janice) Henning of Killduff, 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son and daughter in infancy, four brothers, two sisters and a half-sister.
Mr. Van Gent was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sully in which he served as a deacon.
The son of Daniel and Jana Schinkel Van Gent, he was born Feb. 15, 1902 in Pella, neb.
He was married to Dorothy Verwers Feb. 6, 1926 in Pella.
