Death of I. G. Doane
The Gilman Dispatch of Feb. 13th, contains the obituary of I. G. Doane, who committed suicide by drinking concentrated lye, on the 7th inst., in the 74th year of his life. He came here in 1857, where he lived except the last few years, when he lived in Laurel.
He leaves as his immediate family two sons and two daughters: Orville Doane of Gilman, E. C. Doane of Kellogg, Mrs. May Rodgers of Laurel, and Mrs. Jennie Williams, of Missouri, and thirteen grandchildren, also one brother and numerous other relatives. The Dispatch says:
“Mr. Doane has been a resident of this vicinity many years and was held in high esteem as friend, neighbor and citizen, by all who knew him. He was a man of clean character and reputation, thereby winning the honor and respect of his fellowmen.”
The body was interred on Sunday, Feb. 9th, at Union Chapel, southeast of Laurel, by the side of his wife.
