Zelma Green, 82, Dies on Sunday; Rites Wednesday
Newton – Mrs. Earnest (Zelma) Green, 82, of 801 W. 3rd St. S., died Sunday morning at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Neil Rippey, pastor of the Free Methodist church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Wallace Funeral Home after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Memorial contributions to the Heart Fund will be accepted. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Alice) Gilbert and Mrs. Charles (Nellie) Davis, both of Newton; two nephews, Kenneth Kirk of Newton and Robert Kirk of Spickard, Mo.; who were raised in the Green home; two grandsons,; a great-grandson; and a brother, George Kirk of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister and a brother.
Mrs. Green, who enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, had worked at the Maytag Co. and Newton Manufacturing Co. until her retirement.
The daughter of Enock and Josie Kincade Kirk, she was born April 28, 1900 in Spickard, Mo.
She was married at Princeton, Mo.
