Dwight’s funeral service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, September 5th at Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, 1000 E. 12th St. S. in Newton. The service will be conducted by Pastor Brian Keeton. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, September 4th at the funeral home.

Burial will be at the Our Silent City Cemetery in Kellogg following the funeral service and lunch at the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Kellogg Township Fire Department, Cornerstone Bible Fellowship, Grinnell Regional Hospice or to the Donor’s Choice; memorials may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home or at the church on the day of the service. If you are mailing the memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Lenz Family on the envelope. Dwight “Gus” Louis Lenz, the son of Louis and Mary Jane Shill Lenz was born on June 19, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was a graduate of Kellogg High School in 1957.

On November 12, 1960, Dwight was united in marriage with Sue Hagen in Kellogg, Iowa at the United Methodist Church. They were blessed with two children, Todd and Teri. Dwight worked his entire life as a farmer. He attended the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. Dwight was a member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau, served on the Board of Directors for the Jasper Mutual Insurance Company (now the Hawkeye Mutual Insurance Association) and also served on the Board of Directors for the Farmer’s Co-Op (now the Heartland Cooperative). Dwight sang in the southern gospel style group Sounds of Inspiration for 19 years.

He enjoyed being with his family and friends especially his grandchildren and their families. He liked to fish and Dwight just liked being with the guys working on the farm.

Dwight died on Friday, August 30, 2019 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell surrounded by the love of his family. He was 81. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to honor Dwight’s memory are his wife, Sue of Kellogg; son, Todd (Regina) Lenz of Kellogg; daughter, Teri (Kent) Langmaid of Newton; his six grandchildren, Courtney (Trent) Albee of Marshalltown, Abbey (Sam) Bro of Montour, Nathan (Haleigh) Lenz of Kellogg; Jarica White of Kellogg, Nicole Langmaid of Grimes and Kayla (Adam) Singletary of Baxter; five great-grandchildren, Ainsley Albee, Cooper Lenz, Rylee and Grahm Bro and Grayson Singletary; his brother, Dale Lenz of Kellogg; his brother-in-law, Robert Hagen (Nina) of Kellogg; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Kydd of Marion and Patty (Randy) Jackson of Polk City; nieces, Mindy Plumb of Belle Plaine, Courtney (Jeremy) Claussen of Newton; nephews, David Kydd of Marion, Tom (Danelle) Kydd of Marion, Sean (Stephanie) Kelly of Kansas City, Missouri, Scott Kelly of Newton, and David Eilander of Kellogg; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 30 Aug 2019.
