ARTHUR F. SCHMIDT

Arthur F. Schmidt, the son of Henry and Vera Hoy Schmidt, was born on September 19, 1936 in Newton, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

On March 15, 1958, Arthur was united in marriage to Shirley C. Scarbrough at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. He lived and farmed all of his life in northern rural Newton. Arthur was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, the Moose Lodge and the Jasper County Farm Bureau. Arthur was a devoted dad, grandpa, brother, and friend.

Arthur died on Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 66. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Albert Schmidt.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Shirley of rural Newton; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Barb Schmidt of Baxter, Iowa; his 2 daughters, Phyllis Twaddle of Reasnor, Iowa and JoAnn Johnson and her companion, Dave Simpson, of Baxter, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Randy and Brandon Schmidt, Joshua and Jaclyn Twaddle, and Mindy and Michael Johnson; Dave's children, Kyle and Kendyl Simpson, and his 1 brother, Arnold Schmidt, of Newton.
