Stephen Scott Holmes, age 76 of Pella and formerly of Prairie City, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Jefferson Place in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Fire Department and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

Steve was born on August 10, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. As an infant, he was adopted by John Dowden Holmes and Alerta Tularre Scott. He has a twin brother, William Tarry Vant Hof was adopted to a different family. Steve also has another adopted brother, Mike Holmes in Prairie City. Steve graduated from Prairie City High School in 1961. On January 10, 1964, he was united in marriage to Ramona Irene Brashear at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. Ramona passed away on December 18, 2002. Steve later married Eileen Joyce DeRuiter on July 3, 2004 in Pella, Iowa. He owned a small engine repair shop in Prairie City for many years. After his retirement, he moved to Pella and continued to tinker on different projects. Steve was a member of the Prairie City Fire Department and drove the ambulance.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Eileen; two sons, Dean Holmes and Dwain (Junann) Holmes; two granddaughters, Julyn and Jaclyn Holmes; his twin brother, William Tarry Vant Hof; adopted brother, Mike (Mary) Holmes; and Eileen's family, Carla (Bruce) Schouten and their kids, Oliva, Brett (Makenzie), Leah and David; Ed DeRuiter and his family Drew (Laura and their daughter, Avery, Melissa (Dustin) Carlson and their daughter, Mae; Sandy (Rob) Blom and their family, Morgan, Riggen, and Caleb. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ramona in 2002 and a son, David in 1985. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Prairie City, Iowa 30 July 2019.
