Ruby Marie Barnes, 85, of Newton died Monday, May 3, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Jim Olson, pastor of Zoar Church in rural Baxter, officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home where the family will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be accepted in her name.

The daughter of Fred and Minnie (Rethmeier) Eilert, she was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Baxter. On Feb. 23, 1938, she married Bennie William Barnes in Baxter. She worked with her husband on the farm and enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Scott and Tammy Perry and Tracey Breon, all of Baxter; a great-grandson and great-granddaughter; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Rex Bryant of Newton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Marilyn Perry. ~ Newton Daily News, Newtotn, IA, Wednesday, May 5, 2004
