Death of Wm. Lister
Dies at his residence, one and a half miles south of Newton, on Monday night, Sept. 28th, 1896, William Lister, aged 73 years and 10 days.
Mr. Lister was born in Yorkshire, England, Oct. 20, 1823, where he lived until early manhood, and learned the trace of wool-sorter under his father. At sixteen he was chosen foreman of sorters, and served in that capacity for several years, in various parts of England. He was married to Miss Hannah Brown, Feb. 2, 1847, and to them were born eleven children, four of whom have preceded him to the spirit land.
Mr. Lister came to America in 1865, resided in Philadelphia for several years, coming to Iowa in 1872, where he purchased the farm on which he has since resided.
Mr. Lister has always been a prudent, economical, industrious and hard-working man. He built and owns the Opera House block in this city, besides other property. He was a good citizen, and will be mourned by many who knew him best.
The funeral will be held at the residence, on Friday next, Oct. 2nd, at 1:30 p.m.
