Charles "Chuck" Swalwell
August 8, 1927 - March 28, 2019

The stars are out, there is a gentle breeze, you can hear the baying of dogs. The coons do not have a chance the Mighty Hunter has come home. Charles "Chuck" Swalwell, 91, of Newton, passed quietly and peacefully at Pella Regional Health Center in Pella on Thursday, March 28, 2019. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. at Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Baxter. A graveside service will follow in Restland Cemetery, in Baxter, and will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Chuck was born on August 8, 1927 in rural Baxter, Iowa to George and Jessie (Miller) Swalwell. He attended country schools in Mingo, Baxter, and Newton. Following school, he joined his father on the family farm until he joined the Army. Chuck served as a cryptographic technician during WWII. After he honorably served, he returned home and continued farming. He married Margaret Schmidt on March 19, 1955 in Newton, Iowa. The couple farmed together in Marshall and Jasper Counties and began raising a family together on the farm. Chuck was a member of the NFO and World Tree Dog Association where he won sportsman of the year. He loved hunting, fishing, trapping, playing cards, playing pool, going to auctions.

Those left to remember Chuck are his children Mark Swalwell of Newton, IA, Diane (John) Engle of Baxter, IA, Jodi Swalwell of Newton, IA, and Matt Swalwell of Newton, IA; grandchildren Margaret "Maggie" (Kurt Roush) Engle, Harold "Tom" Engle, and Samuel "Sam" Weissenburger; sister Carolyn (Dave) Moore; sister-in-law Mildred Swalwell; many nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded by his parents, wife Margaret, infant son Miles, sisters Dorothy (Bob) Kreagar, Maxine (Clarence) Carda, George Swalwell Jr., and Dale (Wimpy) Swalwell.
