Obituary – Jackie Lee Spidle

Jackie Lee Spidle, age 73, of Leon, Iowa, the son of Richard Melvin and Gretchen Pauline (Miller) Spidle, was born November 9, 1945, at Waterloo, Iowa. He died at his Leon home on April 1, 2019.

Jack grew up in Leon, Iowa and graduated from Central Decatur High School in 1964. He and Naomi Marie Langager were married May 22, 1964, in Leon. They moved to Omaha, Nebraska where Jack worked for a department store. By the end of the year, they moved back to Leon. Their first child, Enola Dee, was born. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa from 1965, until the end of 1969, and were blessed with sons, Richard, who was stillborn, and Troy. On January 7, 1970, Jack started a 30-year career at Caterpillar in Joliet, Illinois working as a pipe fitter and a machinist. After retirement the end of March of 2000, the couple moved to Newton, Iowa for nine years. In 2009, they returned to Leon where Jack enjoyed working for and with Kevin Buckingham. He enjoyed mowing the golf course and doing many other odd jobs.

On December 26, 2011, Jack had a heart attack and was put on Hospice for 18 months. He improved and had a second chance at life. In November of 2017, he had another heart attack and a stroke soon after. He went home from the hospital and lived another 15 months with the care of his loving wife.

Jack was a great country dancer. He competed in many dance contests. He was his church choir director when they were in Illinois. He was a member of the Leon Lions Club. In his free time, Jack enjoyed watching basketball, golf, football, and wrestling on television. Jack loved his dogs, Ginger and Black Jack.

Preceding him in death were his parents; infant son, Richard Scott Spidle; and great grandson, Dusty James Spidle. Survivors include his wife, Naomi Spidle of Leon, Iowa; children, Enola and Charles Stolz of Hamilton, Georgia and Troy Spidle and fiancé, Shelli Teter, of Leon; grandchildren, Kristen, Jesica, Paula, Zachary, Chase Ann, and Holli Rose; great grandchildren, Danicka, Xavier, Zander, Lenix, Tyler Dawn, Katrina, and Issac; siblings, Richard Spidle of Norwalk, Iowa, Clarine Kay and Elmer McCann of Omaha, Nebraska, Debbie and Jerry Enochson of North Liberty, Iowa, and Tommie Rae and Donna Spidle of Newton, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Visitation is Friday, beginning at 3 p.m. with Family receiving friends 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. ~ The Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa 01 April 2019.
