FEBRUARY 9, 1970 ~ APRIL 5, 2019 (AGE 49)

Mike Herbold, 49, of rural Newton died on Friday, April 5, 2019. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, April 13, at the Elks Lodge in Newton. Memorials to Mike’s family or the Elks Lodge Scholarship Fund may be left at the Elks the day of the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mike, the son of Jim and Lynn (Schmelzer) Herbold, was born on February 9, 1970 in Des Moines. He grew up on his family farm in rural Newton. Mike was a 1988 graduate of Newton High School and later attended Iowa State University.

Mike was united in marriage with Kim Couper on July 7, 2001, in Pella. They made their home on Mike’s family farm where Mike farmed and where they raised their son, Jake. Mike enjoyed cheering on the Iowa State Cyclones. He also was an avid outdoorsman and loved going camping, hunting, and fishing.

Those left to carry on Mike’s memory are his wife, Kim Herbold of Newton; son, Jake Herbold; his father, Jim (Helen) Herbold of Newton; mother, Lynn Herbold of Newton; his sister, Barb (Darin) Meyer of Lindenhurst, Illinois; two nephews, Zach and Alec Meyer; and his mother-in-law, Martha (Dale) Savage of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, E.O. and Lanita Herbold and Al and Ethel Schmelzer and his father-in-law, Randy Couper. ~ The Wallace Family Funderal Home, Newton, Iowa 05 April 2019.
