Obituary – Wells
Death came at 3:15 Sunday morning to John S. Wells, an old and well-known resident of Laurel, after an illness of about two weeks, caused by a slight stroke of apoplexy and leakage of the heart. Mr. Wells had suffered from the latter ailment for some time, but his death was hastened by the apoplectic stroke which he sustained only recently.
John Storer Wells was a native of Maine, where he was born in York county, Jan. 12, 1837. When he was 19 years old he came west and settled in Scott county, where he lived until 1866, when he came to Marshall county. Soon after this he was joined here by his brother, Charles W. Wells who died July 11, 1914. On Jan. 25, 1867, Mr. Wells was united in marriage with Abigail W. Carver in Scott county. Mrs. Wells died Jan. 28, 1909.
With the exception of ten years he was a resident in Marshalltown, after which he returned to Laurel, Mr. Wells always lived in that place. Since his wife’s death he has been living with his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Cavell of laurel. Two other children, Mrs. Fannie Carter of Dixon and John W. Wells of Mitchell, S. Dakota, also survive.
There are two sisters of Mr. Wells, now living, in the persons of Mrs. W. H. Flanders, Melrose, Mass., and Mrs. John Wilson of Duluth, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Corey and two brothers, Alexander and Charles, are dead.
